Once again, Magento has released an update that is sure to help its merchants improve their websites even further. Magento’s 2.4.2 release is packed with over 280 code fixes and 35 security updates. It also includes some key platform enhancements that we are sure you will utilize.

These are some of the key updates included in 2.4.2 we’re particularly excited about:

In-Product Guidance

If you’d like to see help and tips to better utilize Magento, In-Product Guidance is now available if “Enable Admin Usage Tracking” is enabled under Admin. We’re excited to see what kind of dynamic, smart insights this feature shares with merchants.

Detect malicious code

Managing product data can be tedious. Many merchants copy product descriptions from another source they trust. In the midst of that repetition, it’s easy to accidentally place unintended code into the description. Magento will now let you know when it detects potentially malicious code entered into product and category description fields so you can prevent a security mistake before it happens.

Elasticsearch 7.9 Support

While Magento 2.4.2 remains compatible with Elasticsearch 7.4.x and Redis 5.x, Elasticsearch 7.9.x and Redis 6.x are now supported! A key benefit of Elasticsearch 7.9 is faster indexing, having moved from a fixed 200 document ingest to a variable memory-based ingest model. This means search indexing will utilize your host’s memory to maximize your indexing speed.

B2B Payments

On the B2B side, payment for purchase orders you’ve approved can now be completed by buyers online! After selecting their payment method during checkout, and after you’ve approved the PO, the buyer is notified by email to complete the payment process. This email can be customized to match your branding, so if you use this new feature, contact us if you’d like help customizing it to match your brand.

Code Enhancements

Magento 2.4.2 includes a number of code enhancements designed to speed up the Admin area and API performance, enabling faster management of large, complex catalogs. The platform now supports catalogs up to twenty times larger than previous versions!

Web-Optimized Image Rendering

If you use the Media Gallery, you can now enable web-optimized image rendering for those assets. This is great news for page speed and ultimately your shopping experience since optimizing images for the web can drastically reduce their filesize without noticeably compromising image quality.
